Turn Client Design Briefs Into Figma Wireframes With MCP

Last updated: October 15, 2026

A website discovery form works best when purpose, audience, content and available evidence map to layout decisions. An editable Figma wireframe is a later step, dependent on write-capable tools and permissions in your AI client. Connecting MCP alone does not guarantee that every environment can create a new Figma file.

Begin with a short text-only FORMLOVA form on Free. The longer template below includes file uploads, which require Standard or above. Figma account, tool and permission requirements apply separately.

Why Turn Hearings into Forms

Verbal hearings have three recurring problems.

Information scatters. Requirements discussed on a video call, follow-up details sent via Slack, logo files arriving by email. Consolidating everything into one place becomes a project in itself.

Questions get skipped. Conversations drift. The client starts talking about color preferences, and you forget to ask about first-view layout or design elements to avoid. These gaps surface later as revision requests.

Meeting notes take time. A one-hour hearing plus thirty minutes of note-taking. Ninety minutes consumed before any design work begins, repeated on every project.

A structured form can reduce all three problems. Responses can arrive in a consistent format, which reduces consolidation work. A fixed question list makes omissions less likely. And because submitted responses serve as the record, separate meeting notes may be shorter or unnecessary. As a side benefit, clients get time to think through their answers, which can improve the quality of the input.

Start with text-only discovery questions

The following is a proposed trial request, not a result measured for this article. Use a test form before changing an existing live form.

Create a private website discovery draft asking for service overview, audience, website goal, main CTA, verified facts/proof, reference URLs and target timing. Use text fields, not uploads. Require only overview, audience and goal. Map each answer to a proposed landing-page decision. Do not publish or create anything in Figma yet.

Check the output before proceeding:

  • Does each question support a real layout/content decision?
  • Can mobile users skip details that can be confirmed later?
  • Are unverified results, prices, certifications and quotes marked unknown rather than invented?

Create discovery questions that support a real structure

Free covers text fields and preview. File uploads require Standard or above; Figma writing tools, permissions and service conditions are separate.

Hearing Sheet Design -- 5 Steps, 28 Questions

The hearing sheet is designed as a multi-page form with five steps containing 28 questions total.

Why Five Steps

Grouping is a design example, not measured proof of reduced abandonment. Separate first-contact questions from later discovery, then test the actual length on mobile.

The step order is intentional.

StepContentPurpose
Step 1About Your BusinessUnderstand who the client is. This becomes the foundation of the site
Step 2Target Audience and GoalsWho is the site for, and what should visitors do? Design direction is determined here
Step 3Content to IncludeHeadlines, CTA copy, performance metrics. The more specific, the more accurate the wireframe
Step 4Design DirectionMood, colors, fonts, first-view layout, elements to avoid. The most important step
Step 5Assets and RequestsLogos, photos, reference screenshots, additional requirements. Collect materials last

The sequence moves from business context to audience, then content, design, and finally assets. This mirrors the order a designer naturally processes information.

Three Questions That Matter Most

Out of 28 questions, three consistently make the biggest difference in first-draft accuracy.

"Design elements you want to avoid" (Step 4). Asking what clients want produces vague answers. Asking what they do not want produces specific ones. "No cheap-looking stock illustrations." "Nothing cluttered." A single constraint like this narrows the design direction more than three positive preferences combined.

"First-view layout" (Step 4). This question offers five choices: full-width photo with text overlay, split layout (text left, image right), illustration with text, text-centered (no image), and video background. Without options, clients say "something nice." With options, they pick the one closest to their mental image. A dropdown turns a vague conversation into a concrete decision.

"Sites or designs you want to reference" (Step 4). Free text. URLs, service names, even "something like Apple" are all useful. Having a reference -- any reference -- changes the accuracy of the first draft entirely.

Why Dropdowns

Industry, mood, font direction, first-view layout, and primary conversion action all use dropdown selectors instead of free text. Structured options raise response quality.

When "industry" is a free text field, you get "IT-related," "technology," and "SaaS" for the same category. A dropdown with "IT / SaaS" keeps the data consistent and reusable across projects.

MCP Orchestration: Auto-generate Figma Wireframes

After organizing answers, supported write-capable Figma tools can turn a verified section plan into an editable draft. With a read-only connection, stop at the plan and mapping.

How It Works

Connect FORMLOVA and the required Figma integration in a supported AI client. Verify available create/edit operations, file access and account conditions; the Plugin API example needs an environment that can execute it.

The flow works like this:

  1. Retrieve the latest hearing response from FORMLOVA
  2. Interpret the response data and create a new design file in Figma
  3. Build wireframe sections using the Figma Plugin API
  4. Return the completed Figma file URL

After running a supported prompt, inspect the actual saved file and the answer-to-section mapping. Missing permissions, missing tools or unverified inputs require a check before proceeding.

Timings recorded in the original article

TaskTime
Generate the hearing form (Recipe 1)~2 min
Fill in test responses~1 min
Generate Figma wireframe (Recipe 2)~3 min
Total~7 min

Effort varies by project. The historical timing table is not a general time-saving guarantee. The auto-generated wireframe is not a finished deliverable. It is a starting point that a designer refines. But the higher the quality of that starting point, the faster every subsequent step becomes.

Historical Figma Test File

This is an original article test record, not rerun for this rewrite. Timings depend on environment and inputs. Test-service content and placeholders are not evidence of real results or certifications.

The test case used here is "GreenLeaf Analytics," an AI-powered SaaS that helps e-commerce stores recover abandoned carts. The hearing responses were entered into the form, and the wireframe was generated automatically.

How Hearing Items Map to the Wireframe

The table below preserves the original test-service mapping. Its metrics, quotes and security labels are test content, not verified customer evidence. Use only approved real facts in a production page.

CategoryHearing ItemWireframe Reflection

ContentSubheadlineHero subtitle

Of 28 hearing items, 14 are reflected directly. The remaining items -- target audience, business description, competitive advantages -- are used indirectly in section copy and FAQ question generation.

Figma vs Canva

Choose by the actual deliverable and tools available: editable frames/layers for production handoff, or accurate visual material for proposals. The original Figma/Canva comparison was a historical tested setup, not a universal limitation of either product. Verify text, layout and missing materials with the designer before handoff.

How to Use -- for Designers and Indie Developers

This workflow serves two different audiences.

For designers: send the form URL to your client

Share the hearing form URL with your client. The form can collect structured responses asynchronously, reducing the need for calendar coordination.

The questions are customizable. If your industry requires different items, duplicate the form and adjust. In FORMLOVA, telling the chat "duplicate this form and adapt it for restaurants" produces an adjusted draft.

For indie developers: use it as a self-hearing

If you have ever opened Figma to build your own service site and stared at a blank canvas, this form is for you. What should the headline say? Where does the CTA go? What sections does the page need? There are too many decisions to make at once, and the screen stays empty.

Answer the questions to clarify the brief. Where supported writing tools and permissions exist, use the verified section plan to request an editable draft; otherwise hand over the plan.

Prompt Recipes

Before using the long prompts, confirm that the connected Figma tool supports creation/editing and that you have access to the target file. If not, return a section plan instead. Check source facts; do not create customer quotes, results or certifications. The full form template includes file uploads and requires Standard or above.

This workflow requires two prompts. Both are published on FORMLOVA's Workflow Place and can be copied with one click.

Recipe 1: Auto-generate the Hearing Form

This prompt contains the complete form definition for a 5-step, 28-question hearing sheet. Field names, types, dropdown options, and page assignments are all specified, so check the saved fields, types and pages before sharing any published form.

Recipe 2: Hearing Responses to Figma LP Wireframe

This prompt retrieves the latest response from your hearing form, creates a new Figma design file, and builds wireframe sections using the Figma Plugin API. It includes rules for interpreting mood selections, first-view layout choices, color mappings, and section construction. Requires FORMLOVA plus Figma tools that actually support writing, with target-file permission. Otherwise return the section plan only.

Full prompts available on Workflow Place -- copy with one click.

Wrap-up

Map questions to the decisions needed for the landing page. The short text-only draft above can be tried on Free; uploads in the full template require Standard or above.

With real answers, separate verified facts from missing information. Proceed to an editable Figma draft only if supported writing tools and permissions are available. Review the answer-to-section map, missing assets and any unsupported claims before production handoff.
